The basic premise behind ConSpiritu is very simple: gather together a diverse group of creative and engaged people from a variety of backgrounds, provide a framework within which to work, a specific project upon which to collaborate, and enough time in which to fully explore the project from a variety of angles – and let the ideas and creativity fly!
Such collaboration is not an entirely new idea. From time to time, when the need or desire has arisen, the United States government has gathered top scientists and researchers to work on various projects. The Manhattan Project, which developed the atomic bomb, is one case in point. A spin-off of this research was FermiLab in Batavia, Illinois, which still serves to gather creative scientific minds from around the world to work on a variety of projects, especially in the area of high-energy particle physics. Out of this collaboration the Internet was born. The Imagineers of Disneyland and its various enterprises is another example of bringing together creative and skilled persons and giving them free reign to imagine, create and design.
What ConSpiritu proposes is to do the same thing in the arena of society and culture. It seeks to address various problems in contemporary society by means of the creation of cultural forms and artifacts that embody and express values such as environmental and economic sustainability, social, political and economic equity, spiritual engagement, personal fulfillment, kindness and mercy, compassion and wisdom, beauty and joy, awe and wonder.
